Yes, I think this tells us two things about George. First, his resilience - he didn’t give up even though he really struggled at first. Also his determination to do things his own way - even less interest than Paul in the formal music classes offered at the school and as you say he bailed on a couple of guitar tutors.
Another interesting point is that both Paul and George played down the little formal tuition they had - for example Paul has described the influence of what is assumed to be Bach’s Bourree in E minor on Blackbird: ‘The original inspiration was from a well-known piece by Bach, which I never know the title of, which George and I had learned to play at early age; he better than me actually.’
But who taught them this if neither had more than a few lessons?
