The ukulele is a great instrument - much easier to master the basics than guitar and a lovely sound (five strings even better but probably not a starting point). I had a terrible time with the guitar as kid - could never get past a horrible mangled F chord (wrote about it on here in Starting Note). Came to the ukulele many decades later after making modest (!) progress with piano. Was astonished how easy it is to start playing songs - rather than bits or sections with piano. Still think the latter is the key (!) to understanding how music works but the uke is so much fun.
